Faced with the risk of drought, France imposes significant fines for illegal rainwater harvesting. Here are the rules to follow to avoid financial penalties.

Despite the heavy rains this winter, the situation remains particularly problematic in France, with the country fearing a new drought this summer. Water restrictions have been announced by the authorities necessary to preserve resources. Last year, 14 departments were placed, in part or in whole, on alert threshold by the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

In the south-east, north-east and Île-de-France, individuals faced heavy fines if they circumvented the restrictions. Among the measures to be respected, that of banning the filling and emptying of private swimming pools. In addition, watering green spaces is prohibited, except for young shoots, and restrictions apply on watering times for sports fields, flowerbeds, vegetable gardens and crops.
