1 puff pastry sheet, thawed
10 slices of ham, thinly sliced
10 slices of cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon of mustard powder
1 egg, beaten for egg wash
2 tablespoons of sesame seeds, optional
Directions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 12x9 inches.
Evenly spread the mustard powder across the pastry, then layer the ham slices followed by the cheddar cheese on top.
Starting from the long side, carefully roll the pastry into a log. Seal the edges by pinching them together.
Cut the log into 12 equal slices, approximately 1 inch thick.
Place the slices cut side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
Variations & Tips
To mix things up, try using different types of cheese such as Swiss or provolone. Adding a sprinkle of dried herbs like oregano or thyme to the mustard powder can give these sticks a nice aromatic touch. For a bit of a spicy kick, a dash of cayenne pepper or paprika works wonderfully too.
