Farmer shares cost-effective tip for getting rid of mice without harming them

Mice are rodents that can infest homes and cause significant damage. These pests can, in fact, gnaw certain materials or equipment, contaminate food, and even transmit certain diseases. They are therefore not welcome in our homes. That said, find out how you can get rid of them and keep them away from your home.

To detect the presence of mice in your home, there are certain signs. The first telltale sign is the presence of mouse droppings. The droppings are small and do not exceed 8mm. They will allow you to identify the places where these rodents pass through. In addition to droppings, you will also notice teeth marks on electrical cables and furniture. You may also hear scratching noises, or smell an unpleasant odor, especially in enclosed areas like closets or attics.

How to get rid of mice in the house without harming them?
To keep mice away, you can use stainless steel scouring pads, or steel wool sponges as recommended by Bernard Truffaut, a farmer in Normandy. “This will allow you to get rid of mice, without having to set a mouse trap for them, and without killing them,” says the farmer. In fact, steel wool is not toxic to mice and is not likely to kill them. On the other hand, the latter do not appreciate these products used in cleaning the house. These rodents do not like to chew steel wool because of its sharp edges. You can then place these household products in the path of mice and in places they frequent, especially in corners and between furniture such as cabinets.

Steel wool will also allow you to block holes through which mice can pass, especially since these pests can pass through any hole, even if it seems small to you.
