The onion fly will no longer come near my beds. How can I get rid of it without chemicals?

Birch tar is an effective remedy

Later I decided to try another method – using birch tar. I read in one of the magazines that a solution of 1 tbsp. l. tar in 10 liters of water effectively repels pests. Tar, as it turns out, can not only spoil a barrel of honey, but also fray the nerves of many pests, such as onion and carrot flies.

Having tried this method on my site, I was convinced of its effectiveness. However, many gardeners fear that tar may be carcinogenic. It’s a delusion. In the outback of Siberia, tar has long been used to protect against midges and mosquitoes, and it is not a carcinogen. The carcinogenic substance creosote is formed when birch wood is burned, and not when tar is used.
