As we said before,  lycra  is one of the most used materials for making clothing. Light and comfortable,  it is combined with other synthetic or natural fibers.

The problem that many people have when it comes to lycra is  its sewing  :  how can it be repaired or used using a sewing machine? The secret is in the needle  . The trick used by the seamstresses has been revealed.

If you are using a sewing machine then  the perfect needle is the 70/10 also known as the Jersey needle. To avoid damaging the fabric, you will need to use the machine very slowly so that the stitches do not jump and you do not risk that the seams affect the elasticity of the fiber.

Always try to keep  the fabric as tight as possible  without distorting it in any obvious way. Sewing an elastic fabric like lycra can be really complicated but here is another tip that will surely come in handy:  you can use thin paper, tissue paper for example  , lining the lycra. Once all the seams are done, simply tear off the sheet and voilà, you will not have damaged your elastic fiber at all.

When you take  the 70/10 needle or the Jersey needle  , you must pay particular attention to the  tip  : it must  be completely rounded. This is the secret that will allow you to sew an elastic fabric like lycra without difficulty.

Why? Simple:  the needle will be able to penetrate the fibers without breaking them  . Also pay attention to the  speed setting of the sewing machine. Because Lycra is a very stretchy fabric, you’ll want to  walk slowly to moderately  .

The advice of seamstresses is to use  the foot  so that the machine does not skip any stitches, thus exerting  uniform pressure  . Be careful not to crease the lycra which must always be taut and taut.

Sewing this material really requires perseverance and patience because  it is very difficult to handle. If you’re a beginner and afraid of ruining it, experiment with similar fabrics before sitting behind the sewing machine.
