Do You Know What That Little Button on Your Seat Belt Is For?

Learn the value of a seat belt stop button and its function in ensuring your safety and comfort. Find out how to quickly replace it, what happens if it breaks, and where it is placed.

Although it may not seem significant, the little button on a vehicle seat belt really serves a crucial purpose in ensuring convenience and safety. The little plastic component on the seat belt strap that prevents the metal latch plate (the portion you click into the buckle) from sliding too far down when not in use is called a stop button or retainer button.

Think about it if the button didn’t exist. When you’re ready to fasten your seatbelt, the latch plate would move all the way to the base of the belt, making it a real nuisance to hold. The latch plate remains in a convenient location because of this button, which saves you both time and effort.
