Planting tomatoes can be a simple task, but to get healthy and abundant fruits, there are a few essential tips to follow. Here is a step-by-step guide to maximize your chances of success when planting your tomatoes.
Preparing Tomato Plants
It is common for tomato plants to be in poor condition before planting, which can jeopardize the health of your future harvest. The first step is to soak the tomato roots in water before planting. This hydrates the roots and prepares them to better absorb water from the soil.
To take it a step further, add a spoonful of sugar to this water. Sugar helps the seedlings recover faster and be ready for transplanting.
Planting tomatoes deep
Another important tip is to plant your tomatoes deep enough. Dig a hole about 25 to 30 cm deep, so that two-thirds of the plant is underground. Tomato roots grow on the stem where it is in contact with the soil. Therefore, the more stems underground, the bigger and stronger the root of the plant will be.
Using Organic Fertilizer
Before planting your tomatoes, it is recommended to add a granular organic fertilizer to each hole. But that's not all. I add a spoonful of eggshell powder to each hole, which is extremely beneficial for tomatoes.
Preparing Eggshell Powder
When making scrambled eggs, don't throw away the shells. Wash them well to remove any residue that could encourage bacteria growth, then let the shells dry.
