Our electrical appliances are not the only ones that consume energy. The bulbs that light our homes can also cause excess electricity consumption. This depends on the type of bulb used and the frequency of lighting. And so adopting certain eco-friendly actions will help you save on your bill. We share with you our tips for saving energy.
Adopting eco-friendly actions can reduce your energy consumption and therefore reduce your electricity bill.
Tips for saving on electricity
Turn off the light when leaving a room
Turning off the light when you leave a room is a gesture that seems obvious, but we tend to forget it sometimes. If you have trouble adopting this reflex, you can install a presence detector that will turn off the light for you when you leave a room.
If you have CFLs, it is recommended that you turn them off if you plan to be gone for more than 15 minutes. But if you will be gone for a shorter period of time, you can keep them on to avoid burning them out. This is because the lifespan of these bulbs depends on the number of times they are turned on and off.
Choosing the right type of bulb
The choice of bulb is not to be neglected. It is your type of bulb that will help you save electricity, or on the contrary increase the share of lighting on your electricity bill.
Before buying your bulb, check its label. This includes information on its energy consumption. Choose the bulb that has the A rating and that means your lighting will be more economical. Moreover, among the bulbs that consume the least energy, we distinguish LEDs and compact fluorescent bulbs.
– LEDs
Although they are expensive to buy, LED bulbs are those that consume the least energy and last the longest, compared to others. In fact, they consume 6 times less than halogen bulbs and 10 times less than incandescent bulbs, as explained on the Capital website.
– The compact fluorescent lamp
Also called a low-energy bulb, the compact fluorescent bulb is also recommended for saving on electricity. It also provides good lighting for your home. Indeed, it has the advantage of converting 80% of the energy into light and therefore only 20% is converted into heat, as explained on the EDF website.
– The halogen lamp
If you want to save on your lighting, avoid this type of energy-consuming bulb. Moreover, in September 2018, the European Commission banned the marketing of halogen bulbs, for economic and ecological reasons.
– Incandescent bulbs
These bulbs have the shortest lifespan, but in addition to that they are energy-intensive and do not provide good lighting. In fact, they only convert 5% to 8% of their electrical consumption into light. The rest is transformed into heat, according to FUTURA PLANETE.

Maintaining bulbs
Remove dust from your bulbs and lampshades to revive their lighting and instead choose light lampshades which will accentuate the brightness emanating from the bulbs.
