Why You Should Consider Not Eating Pork

There are many religions that prohibit the consumption of pork. The meat is considered “impure” and unhealthy. Is there a reason for this? Is there more to it than just a religious instruction we should all be aware of? In fact, there is plenty of scientific evidence to support this hypothesis.

Pigs are scavengers by nature, meaning they will eat almost anything, including spoiled food, feces, urine, carcasses, and even cancerous tumors. Unfortunately, a pig’s digestive system is unable to effectively remove these accumulated toxins from the body, as a pig can fully digest its food in about 4 hours. This is simply not long enough to eliminate the excess toxins that have been ingested, and these toxins are then stored directly in the pig’s fat cells and organs.

“Sweat like a pig” again? Ironically, this expression isn’t true – pigs don’t have sweat glands, which means they’re unable to eliminate excess toxins through sweat (like we do). So, naturally, this means that pork is a much more toxic meat than other meats, and when you consume it, you’re ingesting these toxins into your body. With our current environment, we really don’t need to expose our bodies to even more toxins.

According to a survey conducted by Consumer Reports, 69% of all raw pork samples tested (approximately 200 samples) were contaminated with a dangerous bacterium known as Yersinia enteroclitica. This bacterium can cause fever, gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, vomiting, and cramps.

Ground pork was more likely to be contaminated than pork chops. It also contains other contaminants, including a controversial drug called ractopamine, which is banned in China and Europe. Most of the bacteria found in the pork were actually resistant to multiple antibiotics, making treating a disease another potentially dangerous issue.

According to the report:

“We found Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, or Listeria monocytogenes, the most common causes of foodborne illness, in 3 to 7 percent of samples. And 11 percent contained Enterococci, which can indicate fecal contamination and can cause problems such as urinary tract infections.”
