How to keep your house cool in summer: 10 tricks and tips

When the hottest days of the year arrive we always try to shelter from the heat inside our homes. But this is not always possible: sometimes our homes are so hot that they are even worse than open spaces.

Although air conditioning is the fastest solution to this problem, not everyone has it or wants to keep it on constantly.

For this reason we suggest some tricks and tips for keeping your home cool during the hottest days, without necessarily having to resort to fans or air conditioning.

1. Ventilate the house in the morning
This operation is very important not only to allow air exchange, avoid bad odors and the formation of mold, but it is a phenomenal trick for keeping the air fresh inside our homes.

The reason is simple: temperatures are lower in the morning, so it is the best time to ventilate the house and allow new air to enter. Leave windows open for at least 30-40 minutes.

2. Close the shutters
As obvious as it may seem, closing balcony shutters and windows is important to prevent heat (not light) from entering through them.

In addition to keeping the air cooler, this trick allows us to save on air conditioning, since the room will heat up less.

3. Insulate windows
Window insulation is associated with winter, as it is done only to prevent the cold from entering through the cracks. However, heat can also enter and it is important to insulate windows even in summer.

If you cannot put awnings, capable of blocking the sun’s rays, you can put very thick and large curtains, in a color capable of repelling the heat such as white or grey.
