This  syncopated noise  can sometimes be linked to  benign causes , such as  high blood pressure  or  temporary congestion of the vessels . However, it can also reveal  more serious problems  :

• Aneurysm  : An  abnormal dilation of a blood vessel  that can lead to  rupture .
• Benign tumors  : Some  lumps near the ear  can  disrupt blood flow .
