Once you’ve finished using your lemon, don’t discard the seeds! Instead, set them aside and rinse them thoroughly under room-temperature water using a fine sieve. Next, place the seeds on a paper towel and pat them dry. Using a pair of tweezers, carefully peel off the outer skin covering the seeds.
How to Grow a Lemon Tree from Seeds
1. Prepare the Seeds
After peeling the seeds, take a small container, like a yogurt cup, and fill it with moist cotton.
Place the seed in the cotton and let it rest for at least a week.
2. Watch the Seed Sprout
After about seven days, you’ll notice a small sprout emerging from the seed.
3. Encourage Root Growth
Keep the cotton and the surrounding environment moist to help the sprout develop small roots.
4. Plant the Sprout
Once the roots have formed, it’s time to plant the sprout in a small pot filled with a mixture of soil and perlite. This combination ensures good drainage for healthy growth.
5. Care for the Seedling
- Place the pot in a well-lit, warm location away from drafts.
- Keep the soil consistently moist.
- With proper care, the seedling will grow into a lemon tree that will eventually yield juicy fruits!
