Commercial airliners fly at altitudes of over 10,000 meters with an outside temperature of -60°C and without oxygen. Skydiving, even in an emergency, would be suicidal. The cruising speed of an airplane is approximately 800 km/h, which would also cause unconsciousness for anyone attempting to jump. To successfully parachute, passengers would need to equip themselves with oxygen tanks, a flight suit, a mask, and a special helmet. This is likely impossible.
Equipping airplanes with parachutes to save lives is a good idea, but it seems unlikely. The number of survivors would be minimal. Most plane crashes occur during the first and last minutes of flight, leaving little time to open a parachute and make a jump.
