It turns out that not everyone knows what the three compartments of a washing machine are for.

Nowadays, a washing machine has become simply indispensable in our homes, but many people aren’t aware of all its features and don’t use them. I didn’t know this until recently, and now I want to share it with you.

1. Why does a washing machine have three compartments?
If you look closely, you can see that the compartments are labeled. The outer ones are numbered, and the middle one has a snowflake pattern. However, this order may vary depending on the washing machine brand.

On our machine, the outer compartments are numbered with Roman numerals and the middle one has a snowflake symbol.

The Roman numeral 1, the Arabic numeral 1, or the letter “A” – a tray whose contents are used by the appliance during the prewash cycle. Do not add detergent to this compartment if the soaking mode is not enabled.

Roman numeral II, Arabic numeral 2 or letter “B” – compartment for products used in the main wash cycle. It is used in every cycle unless the product is added directly to the drum.

The third compartment, often marked with a star or flower, is for fabric softener. Before starting the rinse cycle, the machine expects you to pour this product into this compartment to make your laundry softer and more scented. However, this step is optional.

The compartments are specially designed to ensure that the washing machine holds the correct detergent for the different washing modes and that no mixing occurs.

2. What is the difference between the washing modes?

New washing machines offer a variety of washing modes. However, in most cases, these are just marketing tricks by manufacturers, and the difference between some modes is insignificant.
