Has water started to come out of your refrigerator? Don’t panic! While calling a technician might seem like the only solution, there are actually a few things you can try yourself to potentially solve the issue and save some money.
Why is water leaking from the refrigerator?
There can be a few reasons why water is leaking from your refrigerator. One possibility is that the thermostat is not functioning properly, causing changes in internal temperature and creating humidity and water buildup. Check the thermostat and make sure it’s set to the correct temperature (usually between 4°C and 5°C). If the thermostat is not working, it’s best to call a professional technician and inquire about warranty coverage for the repair.
Another potential problem could be a broken water tank at the back of the appliance. Often, we neglect cleaning this area, which can accumulate dust and debris, and even cause damage to the water tank. Additionally, the tank may be positioned incorrectly, leading to water spillage. To fix this, try repositioning the tray or replacing it with a new one. If the issue persists, it’s time to consider calling a technician.
When is it time to call a technician?
One hidden component that can cause water leakage is the valve, located at the bottom of the refrigerator and hidden under a rubber piece. This valve, along with the water recovery tray and the appliance frame, should never be tampered with unless you’re a professional. If the valve is clogged, dirty, or damaged, it can result in water leakage. Cleaning the valve might solve the problem, but if it’s damaged, it’s best to seek help from a qualified technician for a replacement.
