Transparent cling film is a very valuable product in the kitchen: it helps to keep food intact, to make sandwiches and sandwiches for packed lunches or snacks at school, it supports us when we prepare cream pastry maker and prevents the formation of this unsightly and annoying skin which would ruin our masterpiece.

But that’s not all ! It is also used on refrigerator shelves! To what? We’ll find out together in a moment, but first let’s see how cellophane is made.

It is a material of natural origin, cellulose hydrate. Its name derives from the fusion of two terms: cellulose, which seals, and diaphanous, a transparent compound which lets light pass through.

This film, which can be used in the food industry due to its extreme safety, non-toxicity, elasticity and practicality, was discovered more than a century ago, in 1898, by three English chemists: Clayton Beadle, Charles Frederick Cross and Edward John Bevan. Once production was launched between the United Kingdom and France, its success was unstoppable. It was immediately used as soft plastic packaging and later also for food storage.

And today it is useful for solving even small domestic inconveniences, as, for example, in the case of the refrigerator.
