The needle is how you use it to sew lycra. The trick used by the seamstresses has been revealed. And you, were you aware of this secret? You won’t be able to do without it. Lycra is one of the most used and, above all, the most worn materials. Most of the clothes we buy are made with it. But do you know how to sew it? Here is the tip of the most expert seamstresses.
What is lycra
Also called elastane or spandex, lycra is a synthetic fiber resulting from the combined reaction of two polymers , one more flexible and the other more rigid. Used above all to give elasticity to clothing , it is not correct to call it fabric but filament.

It is usually made with other materials such as polyester or cotton . We will never find it alone because it would make the clothes not at all breathable and above all uncomfortable and annoying for the skin.
Invented in 1958 by chemist Joseph Shivers , it was born as a substitute for natural rubber which began to have a rather exorbitant price especially after World War II, when it began to be used as a construction material for equipment.
Today, lycra continues to be widely used in the textile sector , in combination, as we have said, with other synthetic or natural fibers. Its presence gives elasticity and better comfort and wearability to clothing.
What clothes are made with this material? Lots of them: for example leggings, jackets, T-shirts but also fanny packs, gloves and underwear. How do you sew lycra? The secret is in the needle . Here is the tip from the most expert seamstresses for you.
