Since July 1, 2022, it has been mandatory to have at least one smoke detector on each floor of your home. This is great for safety, but not so pleasant when they go off for no reason. Why do smoke detectors sometimes trigger an alarm when there’s no fire, and how can you prevent it?
Replace the Batteries on Time
The sound of a smoke detector is impossible to miss, even at night. That’s a good thing because if a fire breaks out in your home, you certainly don’t want to sleep through it. You’re probably not thrilled if you’re woken up at 3 AM by the beeping of the smoke detector when there’s no fire.
There are several reasons why the smoke detector might trigger an alarm for no reason. The most common one is that the batteries need replacing. When the smoke detector goes off for the first time, you probably think the batteries are running low. But if it goes off again soon after, you’ll need to look for another cause.
